When it comes to work, there can be no better form of work than that which feels like “play” rather than “work”. I know that the majority of us likely feel that we have no choice but to go to work to cover the bare necessities in life. It’s so easy to observe others dreading Mondays and being deeply joyful for Fridays (aka living for the weekend); I can be guilty of it myself at times!
It’s true that it’s difficult to find joy in work that yields you nothing more than a bare living, but it’s also true that it’s possible to make a living by doing work you truly love. It all begins with knowing exactly what you want and continuing to search until you find what you’re looking for. Get to know your own values, mission, and vision, then find a company that resonates with you, or create one yourself.
Looking upon your work as the finest sort of play, will place you ahead of the pack in whichever career or industry you choose. Your work can be a recreation if you can perform it in a spirit of enthusiasm and sincerely enjoy what you’re doing. I’ve found that work can actually be fun and exciting when it takes on game-like qualities: it’s challenging, exercising my unique talents, and carries with it a spirit of friendly competition. When you are able to approach your work as play, you will tend to become more enthusiastic, efficient, and energized with your work. You will also be willing to keep moving forward when things get tough and you face adversity.
Ultimately, our time here is limited, and the odds are that you’re spending the majority of your time working away from your friends and family. It’s my wish for you to gain pleasure and satisfaction from the work of your own choosing! The world needs your unique contribution. If you’re already engaged in work you love, then consider yourself blessed; if not, then please refuse to settle for less!
