No matter where you are on your path to living a life full of passion and purpose, there will be challenges, doubts, and fears to overcome.
On this journey you will be required to exercise courage with your actions and decisions. Fortunately, courage is a mental skill that can be conditioned and developed.
You can progressively build up your courage by taking action to conquer smaller fears first. As you overcome these smaller fears, you’ll naturally be able to take on larger ones. Think of it as mental weight training to conquer your fears. Start with the lighter fears first, and then build yourself up to be able to handle the heavy-weight fears.
Understand that you will always have the power to choose to exercise courage over fear. You have the ability to think and take action despite internal or external voices telling you to stay within the safety of your own comfort zone.
I couldn’t have said it any better than this: “Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
There’s nothing wrong with being scared. The mistake is in allowing your fear to paralyze you from taking any action at all.
