Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
~ Samuel Beckett
I must admit it: I failed to meditate 20 minutes per day for 30 consecutive days!
Shall I give up? No way.
Let’s not forget that we often learn more from our failures than our successes. Sometimes it is necessary to fail multiple times until we strengthen our character to the point where we reach and achieve success.
Going from not meditating at all to 20 minutes per day became a bit overwhelming for me so I’ve decided to take smaller steps towards making meditation a daily habit. I will be restarting this 30 day meditation challenge and scale back the time to at least 5 minutes per day.
Although I did not successfully complete this challenge, I did benefit from taking on the challenge:
- I’ve been going to the gym early in the morning, clearing my mind in the sauna for 10-15 minutes and running at least 1 mile per day
- Meditating before bed has resulted in a deeper sleep and dreams I wake up remembering. It’s especially awesome when I wake up with an idea or solution to a problem
- I have been more aware of my thoughts and how I affect other people with my actions
- Calmness of mind has allowed me to thoughtfully respond instead of reacting to certain situations
I will pick myself up from this failure, and look forward to successfully completing this 30 day challenge of meditating 5 minutes a day.
