As of October 28, 2012, I have successfully completed 21 consecutive days of writing at least 1 hour each day.
This has been the most difficult 21 day challenge for me to complete since writing takes so much mental energy.
Here are some of the benefits I’ve experienced from writing at least an hour each day:
- Increased discipline and focus
- Increased clarity in my goals and desires
- More effective written communications
- Learning more about my audience and using the “right words” to get their attention
- Increased feeling of gratitude
- Increased creative energy
- Release of stress from ideas that have been stuck in my mind
As a result of this challenge, I’ve further developed my discipline and focus. Just sitting down and getting into the act of writing requires the ability to overcome resistance, laziness and procrastination.
Writing has been a great outlet for me and has allowed me to exercise my creative side.
Many times when writing, I imagine what I would say to a large audience to add value to their lives and then take it a step further and imagine what I would say to someone in a personal 1 on 1 conversation. I often ask myself, “Why should anyone read my material?” This helps me determine which words to use, topics to discuss and how I deliver my message.
I’ve also noticed increased clarity and brevity in my written communications. For example, in my corporate job, I am becoming more effective at writing emails that tell the story of the problem and what steps to take, in the least amount of words. This allows others to take action quickly so that we move closer to the best solution.
I encourage you to challenge yourself to write for at least 21 consecutive days. There’s tremendous potential in what you can create and in the benefits you’ll receive from taking action.
How can writing on a daily basis positively affect your life?
