The Challenge
To read at least 30 minutes (not work-related) each day for 21 consecutive days.
I am happy to report that I’ve been reading for at least 30 minutes for 13 days consecutive days! I have been committed to getting my reading time in no matter what!
I’ve noticed that I am more aware of what I have been doing with my time and that there are plenty of “hidden” opportunities to read throughout the day. For example, when I encounter those moments where I have a handful of minutes “to kill” (e.g. waiting for laundry to finish, food to cook, late friends to show up, etc), instead of wasting that precious time with trivial acts, I choose to get some reading done.
My previous challenge of refusing to snooze, has definitely played a part in successfully reading at least 30 minutes per day.
Last weekend, I participated in Tough Mudder and found myself engaged in multiple activities with some good friends as we stayed at a cabin in South Lake Tahoe. We were so busy planning, preparing, and exploring the area, it seemed as if I was just “too busy” to get my reading in. Fortunately, I was able to get up earlier than everyone else to read peacefully during the morning hours (I even woke up 15 minutes before my alarm!).
So far, here are some benefits I’ve been observing as a result of this challenge:
- Increased motivation and inspiration
- Increased awareness of my time and activities
- Actively keeping my goals in mind
If you are interested in changing any area of your life, I highly recommend to make reading a part of your daily habits!
