We all have the same amount of time to work with; how are you investing your time?
I have let go of snoozing for 8 days straight and the momentum is building up! I’m noticing that it’s becoming increasingly easier to snap out of sleepiness and into alertness.
The past weekend posed a possible threat to my no snoozing challenge, since there seems to be countless excuses to sleep in on the weekend: no work, warm sheets on a cold morning, laziness, partying and staying up late the night before, etc.
By design, I was able to conquer the weekend and actually woke up earlier at 4am! Also, on Sunday morning, I found myself naturally waking up 15 minutes before the alarm clock went off.
A few benefits that I received from a week of refusing to snooze, which YOU can also receive from taking on this challenge:
- Increased productivity. I simply wake up and get to work while everyone else is sleeping.
- Fueling your body with proper nutrition to take on a high performance day.
- Free flowing commute. I’m on the road while most of the world seems to be still in bed.
A few tips for stopping the snoozing habit:
- Place your alarm clock far from your bed. Keep your clock out of arm’s reach and force yourself to get out of bed to turn it off. I place my alarm at the top of one of my book shelves. By good fortune, I’ve found it motivating to reach for the top shelf each morning to start my day.
- Before going to bed the night before, plan tasks to perform as soon as you wake up. Already knowing what to do when you rise will prevent you from “rationalizing”. Without proper planning, I used to get back into bed and would fall asleep thinking about what I should do. Don’t let your sleepy-self negotiate you back into sleeping in. Preparation is key!
- Make commitments that you’d feel bad breaking. I knew this past weekend would be a challenge, so I made a commitment with friends to go on an all-day hike on Saturday, ensuring that I’d wake up with reason.
What commitments can you make to ensure you refuse to snooze?
Focus of the Week
These next couple of days, I will redirect focus to include two specific morning tasks: reviewing my goals and writing.
The Reward
This no snoozing habit has been SO beneficial that I have upped the reward for myself. After 21 days successful days, I will be picking up a copy of Final Cut Pro X or some new shades. 😎
